Public Health Programs Offered at Campbell University

Campbell University offers a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) and four dual degree programs that include a public health degree and one in a different field. The MSPH program includes four semesters of classes and asks that students complete a minimum of 42 credits. At least 32 credits must come from public health classes, but they can take their 10 credits of electives from other departments. The public health core includes Overview of Rural Health, Epidemiology, Community Health Assessment and Evaluation, Health Education and Promotion and Health Policy and Management. Students will also do three practicums, which must complete in their first three semesters.
One of the dual programs that are available is an MSPH and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). Students need to do one practicum and take 10 MSPH classes, including Perspectives in Environmental Health, Epidemiology and Public Health Biology. Nine of the classes they need to take make up the MBA core. Those courses include Financial Management, Economics for Managers, Legal Environment of Business, Strategic Management, Organizational Behavior and Marketing Management.
Students can complete a Master of Physician Assistant (MPAP) too. The PA/MS program takes 28 months to complete and includes an MSPH project at the end. Some of the additional courses that dual degree majors need to take include Environmental Health, Seminar in Public Health and Ethical Issues in Public Health. Through the JD/MSPH program, students can earn a law degree and a public health degree in four years. They’ll enter the university’s law school and take one year of legal classes, one year of public health classes and then finish their law school requirements.
Also available is a joint PharmD/MS in Public Health. It shows students how to use their past experiences as they assist patients in need and helps them find work in public health facilities. Students spend five years in the program and can complete their public health requirements in a year, including the practicum. Multicultural Health Practices and Health Disparities, Smoking Cessation, Experimental Design and Biostatistics, Introduction to Clinical Research Design and Literature Evaluation and Bioterrorism and Mass Public Health Threats are some of the courses in this joint program.
About Campbell University
Campbell University is a private university that is affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. J.A. Campbell was a local minister who established the Buies Creek Academy in 1887. The academy had an enrollment of just 16 students and held classes in a small church. It became so popular that enrollment climbed to nearly 100 students within a few months. The academy became Campbell Junior College in 1926 in honor of its founder. For nearly four decades, the school functioned as a community/junior college before becoming Campbell University. Campbell now offers professional programs through the School of Law and other departments and a total of more than 100 degree programs for undergrads and graduate and doctoral students.
Campbell University Accreditation Details
Campbell students who need financial aid can submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as October first. The university can design packages that include all types of government aid because it has regional accreditation from the Western Association of Colleges and Schools (WACS). This accreditation also allows students to bring their transcripts from other schools and transfer their credits to Campbell.
Campbell University Application Requirements
The main requirements for acceptance into the MSPH program include proficiency with the English language, a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and a bachelor’s degree from a school that has regional accreditation. Students who enroll in another program first and are in good standing do not need to submit a GRE score. The university also waives the score requirement for students who have a professional degree. All others must submit an official GRE score as part of the application process. Campbell uses the SOPHAS application portal, which requires that students create new accounts and pay an application fee. The final application deadline for the program is July 15 for students starting in the fall.
Students applying to one of the dual degree programs need to meet the requirements for MSPH students and the second program. The MSPH/MBA program requires an MBA application, undergraduate transcripts and three letters of recommendation. Campbell has some prerequisite business classes that students need to take unless they earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the university. The MSPH/PA program requires that students have a GPA of 3.2 or higher in either all their classes or the last two years and a minimum GPA of 3.4 in all their prerequisite courses. They also need a GRE score of 300 or higher from within the last five years and three letters of recommendation. Campbell will only accept those who shadowed a professional PA for 20 hours and completed 1,000 hours of fieldwork.
The university’s JD/MSPH program requires that incoming students receive acceptance to the Campbell University School of Law and then apply to the joint program. Students need to apply with their transcripts, an official LSAT score, and letters of recommendation. Those transferring from another law school need to submit their school transcripts too. The application deadline for the joint PharmD program is September second, but students can apply for up to one year before the program starts. They need a GPA of 2.5 or higher and transcripts that show they completed 64 credits of prerequisites. The university has other requirements for students applying without a bachelor’s degree.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Campbell has a cost of attendance for MSPH students of $850 per credit hour and fees of $510 each semester. In the PharmD program, students pay $995 per credit hour if they take less than 12 credit hours and $20,175 per semester if they enroll full-time in the program. The MPAP program charges fees of $980 each semester and a rate of $14,250 each semester for the student’s tuition. Students also pay up to $21,300 a semester in the joint program through the university’s School of Law. All of the public health programs offered by the university include financial aid options for students, including government and alternative loans and scholarships and grants. Campbell University requires that students file the FAFSA to get financial aid for any of the public health degree programs.
