The Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work at Florida International University offers a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health. Both options feature various concentrations.
The Master of Public Health prepares students for interdisciplinary public careers that examine the epidemiology or circulation of diseases. Students learn about environmental health and safety and how to use current health policies to make an impact as they change policy development. It is available to both full-time and part-time students. Students have the option to complete the degree completely online and those pursuing the accelerated option can finish in one year. Students can choose from six options: biostatistics, environmental health sciences, epidemiology, health policy and management, health promotion and disease prevention, or the generalist concentration that is offered entirely online. A minimum of 45 credit hours is required to complete the degree. The public health core courses include Epidemiology I: Intro to Public Health Epidemiology, Public Health Statistics, Health Behavior and Public Health, Introduction to Public Health Policy and Management, and Introduction to Environmental Health Sciences. Students must then complete concentration and elective courses. Students must also complete a practicum and seminar in their concentration area.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health provides students with advanced study in various areas of public health and they engage in an array of research activities. A minimum of 60 credits beyond the master’s degree is required to complete the program. Students must also complete a dissertation component. Students have the ability to select a concentration in environmental health sciences, epidemiology, health promotion and disease prevention, and health systems research. The core curriculum includes Emerging Issues in Public Health, Biostatistics, Research Concepts and Proposal Development, and Methods in Evidence-Based Public Health.

Federal Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program available to students who demonstrate a significant financial need. Eligible students have the ability to work part-time to help pay for their higher education. Students can work up to 20 hours per week while they are enrolled in classes. The program encourages students to pursue jobs that are related to their course of study or those that benefit the community. The pay differs by each situation, but students make no less than the current federal minimum wage.
