At Sylvia Trottier Hall, the Department of Nursing & Health Professions provides a B.S. in Public Health for Rivier University Raiders to learn ethical, effective intervention strategies that improve community well-being on a local and international scale. Directed by Dr. Paula Williams, the 120-credit, ACEN-accredited path builds atop the “Journeys of Transformation” curriculum with day Nashua courses like Communicable Diseases and Environmental Health plus 14-week fieldwork placements. Since January 2015, the Master of Public Health has offered a 100 percent online format on Canvas for post-grads to advance understanding of health policy administration. Led by Dr. Christina Griecci, the 42-credit program starts six times yearly with fast seven-week Web courses from Healthcare Finance to Public Health Genomics and global practicum. Rivier students could also engage in the Sister Mary Anne Quibin Health Services Center, join the Health & Wellness Club, serve abroad from Beijing to Belize, and intern with St. Joseph Healthcare.
About Rivier University
Rivier University originated in 1933 when Sister Madeleine of Jesus and seven Sisters of the Presentation of Mary faculty founded Rivier College for Roman Catholic education. In 1934, the Hudson campus welcomed an inaugural class of 24 undergrads. In 1935, Rivier College was blessed by Pope Pius XI and chartered by the New Hampshire Legislature to award bachelor’s degrees. In 1936, Miss June Fortune received the first four-year degree in education. In 1941, Sister Madeleine acquired property in Nashua to relocate classes. Endowed for $40 million, Rivier University now employs 238 faculty teaching 1,371 undergrad and 862 post-grad Raiders from 11 countries online or on its 45-building, 68-acre Nashua campus near Manchester with 20+ clubs like the Nursing Association for 76 percent retention. In 2019, Rivier received the Colleges of Distinction Career Development Award. In 2018, Rivier accepted a $2.03 million Department of Health and Human Services Grant. Rivier University had the 2016 NH Excellence in Education Award for Outstanding Teaching winner too. The U.S. News & World Report ranked Rivier the 88th top social mobility performer in the North. Rivier University Accreditation Details
In April 2013, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) voted to reaffirm the Level VI accreditation status at Rivier University through the next Fall 2022 evaluation visit under President Sister Paula Marie Buley, Ed.D., who earned a Business Leader NH Scholars Champion Award. Located 38 miles south via Interstate 93 in Burlington, Massachusetts, this superb six-state Northeast Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to review Rivier’s 32 baccalaureate, 28 master’s, two specialist, and five doctoral degrees. Further, the Department of Nursing & Health Professions was approved by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) in October 2010. Rivier University isn’t currently approved by the Council on Education in Public Health (CEPH) though.
Rivier University Application Requirements
Admission to Rivier University is classified as “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s because 1,546 of the 2,271 Fall 2018 applicants were triumphant for only 68 percent acceptance. First-year Raiders pursuing the B.S. in Public Health must finish an accredited high school curriculum or the GED. Freshmen need at least four English, three math, and two social science units. The Class of 2022 reported an average overall GPA of 3.25. The middle 50th percentile had ACT scores of 19-23. Mid-range admitted SAT scores were 970-1110. Standardized tests are voluntary for non-nursing majors age 23 or older though. Department of Nursing & Health Professions accepts up to 90 transfer credits with cumulative GPAs of 2.5 or better. Non-U.S. residents may prove English fluency with a 5.5 IELTS, 61 TOEFL iBT, 43 PTE, or similar score. Two years of full-time studies in the United States waives this requirement. Online Master of Public Health cohorts need a four-year bachelor’s degree and a 3.0 or greater GPA. One college-level statistics course is also a prerequisite.
Rivier University helpfully has rolling admission year-round. The Early Action deadline of December 1st for freshmen is optional. The priority filing date for financial aid is March 1st. International undergrads must apply before July 1st for Fall or November 1st for Spring enrollment. Current start dates for seven-week Master of Public Health sessions are September 8th, October 28th, January 13th, March 19th, May 17th, and July 2nd. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2019-20, Rivier University is charging full-time B.S. in Public Health majors $16,220 per semester or $32,440 annually. Taking 1-11 credits part-time costs $1,080 per credit. Undergrads pay the $250 technology fee, $200 health fee, and $300 activity fee each term. Freshmen cover the one-time $250 orientation fee. The clinical surcharge is $150 per course. Residing at the Nashua campus dorms like Guild Hall adds $3,410 to $4,845 for semester rent. Unlimited meal plans for Dion Dining Center are $3,075 extra every term. Rivier budgets $1,400 for textbooks and $2,894 for miscellaneous expenses. Annual bachelor’s attendance equals $49,560 on-site or $39,474 with family. The Online Master of Public Health bills $620 per credit. Completing the 42-credit master’s requires $26,040 in total.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Office of Student Financial Services in Madeleine Hall connects 100 percent of new full-time Rivier Raiders to tuition aid averaging $19,539 each for $5.19 million combined. University funds include the Carl Amelio Scholarship, Archambeault Hope Scholarship, Donat Corriveau Family Scholarship, Louise McLellan Dubois Scholarship, Karen Hallinan Scholarship, Neil Holmes Scholarship, Captain Naomi Lanouette Scholarship, Richard Medas Scholarship, Dr. Charles Mitsakos Scholarship, Albert Shurkus Scholarship, Joseph Wozniak Scholarship, Maria Robert Scholarship, Anne Marie Rivier Scholarship, and Mona Pelletier Scholarship. The $10,000 Samuel Tamposi Sr. Scholarship has a May 1st deadline for Nashua High School graduates with cumulative GPAs above 3.0. The Founders Merit Scholarship gifts up to $16,000 annually to full-time freshmen based on SAT/ACT scores. Federal programs, such as the Pell Grant and Health Professions Loan, require FAFSA applications coded 002586. New Hampshirites could also claim the Lakes Region Scholarship, Abbie Sargent Memorial Scholarship, Horatio Alger Scholarship, Granite State Scholars Grant, Leveraged Incentive Grant, and more.
